Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel the tiniest bit naughty when you wish someone a happy hump day? Like, “Happy Hump Day! As in, it’s Wednesday! You know, we’re halfway over the hump of the work week! Not Hump Day as in have fun with your husband tonight! Errr…..”

But that’s neither here nor there. The important thing is: this cocktail. It is, in my humble opinion, a perfect summer drink. Fruity without being too sweet, refreshing, and of course, summery.

So tonight, celebrate Hump Day. With these cocks. Er, cocktails. And your significant other.

  • 2 c blackberries
  • 2 c water
  • juice from 3 lemons
  • Brown sugar simple syrup: dissolve 1/2 c sugar in 1/2 c water
  • 8 oz bourbon
  • optional: lemon wedges, more fresh blackberries, and mint for garnish


In the bottom of a pitcher, dump the blackberries.  With a muddler (or a wooden spoon or even a potato masher…I mean, who has a muddler?) lightly mush up the blackberries.  You want to get them juicy without completely mauling their shape.

Add the rest of the ingredients.  Stir.  Pour over ice.

Yields: 3-4 cocktails
