So, you know how when you’re on death row, you get to have eat one last meal of anything in the world you want? Is this actually true? I’m not sure. I think I saw it in a movie. The Green Mile? Could be. SUCH a sad movie. I’m getting off track… Well, if I were ever on death row, and got one last meal to choose from, it would most certainly be something involving chocolate, peanut butter and banana. What’s that, you say? Chocolate, PB, and banana is a dessert, not a meal? Well, fine then. I’ll skip my dinner and go straight to dessert. Life’s too short anyway. Get it? Because I’m on death row? Bad joke? Ok, moving on.
The point is, I love this combination. And when it comes in breakfast form? You really can’t beat that. Especially when it’s healthy. So I happily make this breakfast “milkshake” for myself almost every single morning. Except when I’m lucky enough to have left-over mini quiche in the fridge. In which case I might eat both meals. Which kinda defeats the purpose of eating “healthy”, but just roll with me on this one.
This shake takes about .427836 seconds to whip up and only has a few ingredients, and in my book, I call that the perfect breakfast.
- 1 serving (according to the nutrition label) of chocolate protein powder — I use whey protein.
- 1 heaping spoonful of PB2 — if you haven’t heard of PB2, it’s a powdered peanut butter with about 1/4 the calories and 1/10 of the fat in regular peanut butter. When you blend it up in a milkshake, you can’t taste the difference! You can order it on Amazon or find it at your local grocery store. Also I’m just kidding about that math. I have no idea if it’s 1/4 calories and 1/10 fat. IT’S HEALTHY, OK?!
- 1 frozen banana — I like to peel my bananas, break them up into chunks, and then freeze them…it makes the consistency of the milkshake much thicker.
- 5 oz. cold water
- 2-3 ice cubes, if needed
Toss all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
Yields: 1 large milkshake or 2 smaller ones
